Shei-Pa National Park was established in 1992. It is bounded on the north by the ridge line from Bian Gu Yan Mountain to Le Shan, on the east by the upstream of Da Jia Stream, on the west by the natural ridge line from Bei Keng Mountain to Xiao Xue Mountain, and on the south by Yu Luo Wei Mountain and the middle reaches of Da Jia Stream. It is located at the border of three counties: Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung, and is the fifth national park established by the Taiwanese government. The park features towering mountains and magnificent landscapes with an elevation difference of over 3,000 meters. Snow Mountain is at the center, with many ridges radiating outward. The mountain ridges are winding and stretching, with clear layers and steep terrain. Among them, Xue Shan and Da Ba Jian Shan are the most representative. The main peak of Xue Shan, located in the middle of Xue Shan Mountain Range, stands at 3,886 meters, the highest point in the range, and the second highest peak in Taiwan. It is known along with Yu Shan, Nan Hu Da Shan, Xiu Gu Luan Shan and Bei Da Wu Shan as the "Five Great Mountains of Taiwan". The Taiwan Provincial Government named Xue Shan for its "accumulated snow sparkling with light on sunny days". Da Ba Jian Shan, standing at 3,492 meters, enjoys the reputation of "the most peculiar peak of the century". The mountain is magnificent and is called, along with Zhong Yang Shan and Da Fen Jian Shan, one of the "Three Peaks of Taiwan".
