Kaadaadaan, an Electric Light Village, lies on the western slope of the Coastal Mountain range, facing Guanshan Township of Taitung across the Pinan Creek. This place was known as "Re Gong Huo" (Thunder Fire) in the past; according to legend, this name stemmed from local mud volcanoes that frequently ignited flames in the night. Locals believed these mysterious fires originated from lightning—the term "thunder fire," in Hokkien dialect, literally translates to "thunder god fire."
Visiting the Electric Light Village, the most notable highlight is Electric light Elementary School. This is a mini school with fewer than 40 students; however, its remarkable achievements in developing school-based curricula have earned it prestigious accolades such as the Ministry of Education’s Top 10 Classic Distinctive Primary Schools and the Top 100 Distinctive Primary Schools by Business Weekly. Two standout programs from Electric Light Elementary School are bamboo mortar experiences and traditional Amis percussion performances.
The bamboo mortar, historically used by the local Amis people to scare Qing Dynasty invaders over a century ago, is now the hottest tourist activity for experience seekers. Traditional Amis percussion performances at the village were taught by the Taitung Gapun Percussion Ensemble and are currently key highlights in welcoming guests.
