The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township. It was established in 1959 and is also known as the Shenshan Catholic Church, as it is situated in the Shenshan tribe. The church is built using local stone slabs. The most distinctive feature of the church is the human-shaped chairs carved by local tribe members, all facing to the right, or the direction of the rising sun, symbolizing hope.
There is a beehive in the church. For the indigenous people, the beehive is a symbol of unity, just like a mother hen protecting her chicks, with a patriarch shielding the people under his care. The villagers are like chicks under the wing, and the bees in the beehive are loved, protected, and have a spirit of teamwork.
It is recommended to spend about 30 minutes visiting the church. A prior appointment with the community development association is required for a visit. Entering Wutai Township requires a mountain entry permit, and Class A large passenger vehicles are prohibited from passing through.
