Ferries departing from Fowao Port connect to Taiwan, Juguang Island, Dongjingu, and Beigan Island, making it a critical transportation hub linking Matsu to Taiwan and its outlying islands. Since the initiation of the pilot cross-strait direct shipping operations (known as "small three links") on January 1, 2001, passenger and cargo shipping, along with tourism development, have flourished significantly, further solidifying Fowao Port's strategic importance as a key maritime hub.
