Behind the Southern Forestry Research Station of the Forestry Bureau lies the Nan Hua Forestry Culture Park, which has preserved its natural ecological scenery. The park was originally a lumber yard and sawmill. From the 1950s to the 1970s, it was an important gathering place for timber in Hualien. In 2006, around 7 hectares of the park was replanned and trees such as camphor trees, sourfig trees, thousand-year桐 trees, three-year桐 trees, goosefoot creeper, white brushwood, and Taitung firethornwood were planted. The park is also home to bird species such as the black-crowned night heron, ring-necked pheasant, and little egret. The park is rich in biodiversity with numerous species of plants and animals.
