The Zhu'an Stream Estuary Wetland is vast, with a diverse range of habitats including paddy fields, fish ponds, and freshwater marshes. This has led to the prevalence of aquaculture and fishing in the area, with a focus on species such as oysters, eels, and grass shrimp. The wetland's serene and varied environment, combined with the abundance of fish and shrimp brought in by the tides, makes it a secluded haven for birds. During the autumn and winter months, when migratory birds make their way south, the wetland becomes a critical stopover point, with thousands of waterbirds passing through or spending the winter months there. Visitors can observe the elegant sight of waterbirds foraging for food, as well as the stunning scenery of the water's surface reflecting the layered mountains. Although the ecosystem has undergone changes in recent years, resulting in a decline in bird populations, it is still a popular spot for birdwatching and photography. The beach at Zhu'an Stream Estuary is also a great place to experience traditional Yilan folk activities, such as "牵罟" (a fishing method where fishermen use bamboo rafts to pull nets along the coast to catch fish). During fishing season, participants can join in and help pull in the nets, and everyone gets to take home some of the catch. Additionally, the Zhu'an Stream Estuary is a great spot to watch the sunrise. In the early morning, the warm sunlight shines on the river, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere that attracts many photography enthusiasts.
