Zhongxiao Night Market is a permanent street market on Zhongxiao Road in the South District of Taichung City. It dates back to the Japanese colonial period and stretches mainly along Zhongxiao Road between Taichung Road and Guoguang Road, intersected by Minyi, Zhengqi, Hezuo, Zhengyi, and Jishi Streets. Unlike the mixed commercial areas of Yizhong Street, Fengjia, or Donghai Bieshu night markets, Zhongxiao Night Market is devoted almost entirely to food, packed with food stalls and restaurants. Next to Taichung’s Third Market, it comes alive as soon as the market closes; most vendors open around 4 p.m. Signature snacks include tube-sticky-rice, crispy fried chicken, Zhongxiao roast meats, Zhongxiao douhua, steaks, thick vermicelli soup, stinky tofu, omelet rice, pork-chop rice, and sugar-cane juice.
