Linhai Village is one of the few places in Penghu where the traditional "gill netting" activity continues. Gill netting is one of the common methods used by early settlers in Penghu to obtain fish, but with the advancement of modern fishing gear and changes in lifestyle, gill netting has gradually declined and has now become a local tourist activity. Gill netting involves using a seine net to catch fish, suitable for shallow beaches without coral reefs. The activity is often conducted at dawn or dusk. Fishermen start by taking a small boat to the outer waters, casting the net into the sea. People on the shore then secure the two ends of the net and work together to pull it towards the shore, eventually hauling in the catch. The types of fish caught vary by season, commonly including mackerel, horse mackerel, and squid. If small fish or non-edible marine organisms are caught, they are released back into the sea.
