Resilient Sea茄冬, Red Mangrove Exhibits Life Force! The name "red mangrove" originated from the now-extinct red茄苳. Today, it generally refers to the woody plant community growing in the intertidal zone of the coastline. Due to the unique ecological environment of the estuary area, the red mangrove developed in the estuary and coastline withstands the rigorous test of the tide's rise and fall every day. The environment's humidity changes dramatically, and few plants can survive in this environment. Therefore, the red mangrove is also known as the "tidal forest." The estuaries of Qigou Creek and Jianguo Creek both have natural ecosystems of red mangroves. Over 300 years ago, the red mangroves in this area were quite lush, and the Ou-Wang Creek was even referred to as the "Green Valley" by the Dutch. Among them, Qigou Creek is dominated by "sea茄苳," while Jianguo Creek is more advantageous with "water pens." The Qigou Red Mangrove Conservation Area is located near the estuary of Qigou Creek. Due to the large amount of humus and nutrients accumulated from the upstream rivers, the soil is more fertile than general coastlines. This provides a good diversity of ecosystems for mud crabs, various fish, shrimp, shellfish, and many birds, and constructs a complete food chain. The Qigou residents mostly make a living by aquaculture, and this piece of red mangrove attracts a large number of egrets, which mainly feed on fish, to inhabit. The Qigou Red Mangrove Conservation Area has a three-story high observation tower with excellent views, where you can observe the flying postures of seabirds, egrets, and other birds, as well as see many unique fishing landscapes of local residents.
