Due to its economic and political strength, the “Madou Lin Family” was as renowned at the time as the “Wufeng Lin Family” in Taichung and the “Banqiao Lin Family” in Taipei, collectively known as the “Three Lin Families of Taiwan.” With the splitting of families, inheritance disputes, and urban development driving up land prices, the seven exquisite mansions built during the Qing period fell victim to varying owners’ differing views. Some were demolished or rebuilt, and the “New Four-Floor House” was one of the earlier ones to be torn down. Because the owners held differing opinions on preserving the old houses, in May 1978 (the 67th year of the Republic), part of the left side of the central axis was demolished.
