The Meishan Visitor Center is located beside National Highway 20 on the southern section of the highway, at the northernmost mountain area of Taoyuan District. It serves as the gateway to the Yushan National Park management area and is the only service station on the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Nearby, the Meishan Sales Office and a camping area provide food, drinks, and rest for visitors. The exterior of the visitor center is built with stone slabs from the Bunun people, harmoniously blending with the surrounding scenery. Inside, there are small informational displays about the Taiwan black bear, as well as commemorative stamps of its footprints, allowing visitors to learn more about Taiwan’s natural ecology while resting. Visitors can also stroll to the nearby Bunun Cultural Relic Exhibition Center, where rich and fascinating displays provide an in-depth understanding of Bunun history, culture, traditional rituals, and human stories. In front of the visitor center, there is an ecological garden and trail that focus on native plants. The garden features interpretive signs that educate travelers about Taiwan’s indigenous and folk plants. Around early January, white plum blossoms start to bloom one after another, making it an ideal spot for winter plum viewing. Near Meishan, there are two suspension bridges, multiple trails, and natural attractions such as Tianchi, Chiyu Valley, and Meilan Trail. The abundant flora and fauna along the way, combined with the expansive vistas, attract countless travelers. Hiking amid majestic mountains, birdwatching, or watching the sea of clouds surge between valleys are some of life’s greatest pleasures. Every winter, the plum blossoms that carpet the mountains look like a sea of snow; their romantic fragrance feels like stepping into an earthly paradise, leaving visitors longing to stay.
