Xu Jia Village is a traditional settlement in Penghu where clusters of the characteristic four-room courtyard architecture from the "four doors facing each other" style are concentrated. The village is named after the fact that all its inhabitants belong to the Hsu family. Many traditional four-fold courtyard houses with quiet and elegant layouts can be found here. Within the village are several famous "Xujia Ancient Houses," located near the Provincial Highway 203 in the Lukesi Township. These houses preserve heritage features of the early buildings, such as the ancestral lanes, Koxinga stone walls, and ox cart paths. The intricate "Bagua alleys," reminiscent of barrier gate defensive structures, are also preserved here. The villagers collectively maintain the village's rustic charm, and today one can still witness red ox carts and grey stone walls. In recent years, vibrant murals have been painted on the Koxinga stone walls, creating a beautiful contrast against the traditional architectural style of Xujia Village. The village features numerous aesthetically painted walls; each mural resembles a postcard depicting Penghu's symbolic imagery. Walking through the streets and alleys of Xu Jia Village reveals a variety of wall paintings with diverse themes and styles. Since 2013, mural artists have gradually expanded their painting scope and consistently maintain and update these murals to ensure they remain fresh and clean. Unlike general tourist attractions, strolling through Xu Jia Village offers a unique experience of blending tradition, simplicity, and tranquility. Xu Jia Village is the closest settlement to the Magong urban area offering a close-up view of traditional Koxinga-style stone houses. It also boasts extensive coastline, shallow waters, and broad tidal flats. In front of the community activity center stands a pavilion. Strolling through the narrow lanes to explore the ancient houses allows visitors to enjoy an artistic fusion of old and new elements.
