The cold spring is located in the eastern valley between Qixing Mountain and Madou Mountain (also known as Qigou Mountain). It was originally a standard explosion crater, but after natural erosion and human reclamation, only an inconspicuous concave valley shape remained. The main rocks are tuffaceous breccia and augite andesite. Most of the rocks near the spring have undergone hydrothermal metasomatism and exhibit clayization. The groundwater flowing out from the bottom of the Cold Spring has a temperature of around 40°C, which is much lower than that of other hot springs, hence the name. This place is also the only sedimentary sulfur mine in Taiwan. The spring water appears milky white, so it is called the Milk Pool. The cold spring is heated by indirect conduction of groundwater, and it has two different types of spring water: neutral bicarbonate and weakly acidic sulfate. The nearby Ruoxi Falls and Mengxian Lake ecological conservation area are also popular tourist spots. In this natural environment, you may often encounter wildlife such as the Asian giant toad, the long-legged Asian treefrog, the Suwenhao's Asian treefrog (whose call sounds like a bird's chirp), the disk-shaped Chinese toad with warts all over its body, and some snakes and reptiles.
