Yunlong Waterfall stands at the entrance of the Batonggu Historic Trail and is a favorite subject for hikers’ cameras. It is the tallest waterfall in Taiwan with the most abundant flow; looking up from below, the rushing water reveals its majestic grandeur, making it the most spectacular cascade on the Batonggu Trail. It is a typical hanging-valley fall, its volume copious and perennial. The waterfall has three tiers with a total drop of more than 100 m; the long, swift torrent plunges almost vertically down the cliff with thunderous force, forming a white curtain, hence its nickname “Azure Mountain White Ribbon.” The one-way hike from Dongpu to Yunlong Waterfall is about 4 km. The route lies hidden on the north-facing mountainside above the Chenyoulan River; the trail clings to the slopes and water, offering lovely scenery and pleasant views, and is one of the most popular historic hiking routes.
