The Feitsui Reservoir is the first double-curved, variable-thickness concrete arch dam designed and constructed by Taiwanese engineers. The dam is 122.5 meters high and has the second-largest storage capacity in Taiwan, after the Zengwen Reservoir. Construction began in 1979 and was completed in 1987. The reservoir primarily supplies tap water to the Taipei area and also generates electricity. The reservoir is not open to tourism or recreational activities to protect the water quality. Fishing and water sports are prohibited in the reservoir. The Feitsui Reservoir Water Resources Education Center was established in 2003. To promote environmental education, the center has continuously upgraded its facilities and equipment. In terms of hardware, the exhibition hall was renovated in 2016, and a new dam and watershed model exhibition area, as well as a green energy experience zone, were added. In 2020, a smart navigation system was built, featuring a virtual reality experience and an interactive touchscreen wall showcasing the Xindian River watershed. The center also features an innovative photo studio where visitors can take memorable photos with the reservoir's unique background. The center offers three environmental education courses designed for different age groups, focusing on five key aspects of the Feitsui Reservoir: ecology, green energy, history, safety, and operation and management. These courses aim to cultivate a sense of appreciation, conservation, and protection of water resources among the public, which can be applied to daily life. The goal is to enhance the quality of water resources education and environmental education, making the center an excellent place for environmental education. Please register and make a reservation in advance through the Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Water Resources Education Activity Registration System (click here to proceed).
