Meilun Mountain rises prominently in the plain of Hualien City. It was once one of the Eight Scenic Views of Hualien — the "Eight Verdant Overlapping Coils." With an elevation of 108 meters and covering more than fifty hectares, it faces the broad, azure Pacific Ocean to the east and the Meilun Creek snakes through its western foot. It has long been a favorite place for morning and evening physical activities among the residents of Hualien County. To the south lies the Loyal Martyrs' Shrine, towering above the city offering a panoramic view of Hualien. The Meilun Mountain Ecological Exhibition Hall and National Museum of Natural Science showcase the habitats of fireflies, rhinoceros beetles, dragonflies, and other insects in the region, along with film screenings, making it an outdoor educational site for elementary schools in Hualien. Within the park there is a Children's Playground area. Behind it stands the entrance to the mountain trail, approximately 800 meters in length. Following the trail, visitors can choose to hike or jog. As the path is flanked by Acacia forest, walking through the shaded lanes offers a refreshing and calming experience. By day, Meilun Mountain presents a lively and vibrant scene. However, an exploration at night unveils a mysterious and surprising atmosphere. The open spaces and ditches surrounding the Ecological Exhibition Hall serve as a paradise for various species of frogs. In summer, small yellow-edged fireflies illuminate the night, whereas in winter and autumn, large mountain window fireflies sparkle, adding a spectacular touch to the nocturnal scenery of Meilun Mountain. Travelers may follow the designated trails in all directions to explore and personally immerse themselves in the tranquil beauty of Meilun Mountain and enjoy a feast of nature.
