The Amis people of the Nanzhuhu tribal community originally resided on Mato Mountain upstream of Fengbin. They migrated to Zhuhu Village in search of flat and fertile land suitable for farming, and later moved, due to illness and other various factors, to the current location of Nanzhuhu. The Nanzhuhu tribal area is the starting point of the Antong Ridge Ancient Trail, a primeval path that traverses the coastal mountain ranges of Hualien and Taitung. From here, heading west leads to Yuli Township in Hualien County. Within the Nanzhuhu tribal community, many buildings brimming with indigenous ethnic charm can be seen. These structures serve as spaces for tourists to admire and rest during their visits. Additionally, during tribal festivals, they transform into gathering venues. One notable example is the traditional "Straw House," a rest pavilion equipped with a barbecue area where tribe members gather to cook and share hunted game with the community. Adjacent to the structure are two stoves used for preparing meals with firewood. Nearby is also a log structure, nicknamed the "Straw Hat" due to its shape, used for stacking firewood. The indigenous fire-roasting setup known as the "Kakahong" is particularly essential for grilling flying fish and holding community gatherings.
