The twin islets of Zhutai (literally "candle holder") are famous for possessing the reputation of "Eight Scenic Spots of Jinshan". They are about 60 meters high. Originally, they were at the end of the peninsula of Huanggang. Due to the rising terrain in early times and the intense erosion of the sea water, they were separated from the peninsula. The raised reefs were eroded by the sea waves for a long time, and the sea caves under them were gradually pierced through to become capes, which formed sea arches like stone gates. Later, the tops of the sea arches collapsed to form the emerged reefs. The emerged reefs are landforms of sea stacks. The bases of the sea stacks are connected, and they are separated on the water surface into two islets. Their appearance is just like a pair of candle holders. Therefore, they were named "Twin Islets of Zhutai". There is a legend about a tragic and moving love story behind Zhutai Islets. It is said that a woman's husband disappeared when his ship sailed away from home. She believed that her husband would return home one day. Therefore, she waited on the seashore every day. However, she did not wait for her husband to return. She turned to be a stone and continued to wait. Her husband returned home but found that his wife had become a stone. He cried by the side of the stone every day. Finally, he turned to be a stone as well and accompanied his wife. In addition, the Zhongzheng Pavilion at the end of the hiking trail in Shitou Mountain Park is the best place for shooting Zhutai Islets and appreciating the sea view. No matter you look at them from afar or from a lower position, under the broad vision, the rich topographic landscape of the coast of Jinshan is magnificent.
