高雄市旗山區永福街23巷16號
In the early 18th century, the ancestors seeking peace and spiritual solace respectfully brought the sacred Matsu deity from Meizhou on the mainland to Fanshuliao (then the old name of Qishan). Locals widely acclaimed the divination's efficacy and miraculous omens. With contributions from many residents, a temple was constructed and completed in 1824, making it nearly 200 years old today. An inscription stone with "Complying with Regulations" installed inside records the eradication of wandering rascals from the settlement at that time. Two commemorative plaques recounting fundraising for restoration efforts are embedded on temple walls, serving as precious historical materials for understanding Qishan's developmental history. The Qishan Tianhou Gong (Mazu Temple), renowned throughout the year for its vibrant incense offerings, is the only remaining Qing-era temple in Qishan area and the most important spiritual center for local residents. The Matsu deity's statue face has been darkened and gleaming from long-term incense fumes. Its stone carvings maintain simple elegance while wood carvings and copper statues display grand decorative intricacy. This temple ranks as one of the must-visit attractions for visitors traveling to Qishan.
