The Beitou Branch of the Taipei City Library is Taiwan's first green building library, located in the lush and ecologically rich Beitou Park, adjacent to the Hot Spring Museum. The library has a total floor area of 650 pings, with one underground level and two above-ground levels.
The indoor space is filled with the scent of books, while the outdoors is filled with the songs of birds, creating a harmonious and interesting contrast. Reading here becomes a pleasant and enjoyable activity. The library has a collection of over 10,000 books, with a focus on "ecological conservation" as its distinctive feature. The vast array of knowledge treasures makes book lovers feel like they are in a paradise of books.
The indoor reading area's tables and chairs have been carefully designed to match the architecture; the outdoor space features wooden deck tables and chairs, as well as a reading platform. Here, you can read while feeling the gentle breeze blowing over, immersing yourself in the world of books with nature.
When you need a break, step outside and gaze upon the lush greenery of the forest, and the ecological lotus pond. Not only can this relieve eye fatigue, but it can also relax both body and mind.
The roof is a lightweight ecological roof, equipped with solar panels that generate 16 kilowatts of electricity. The design incorporates deep shading and vertical wooden gratings, reducing heat radiation entering the building and minimizing energy consumption.
The green roof and sloping grass slope are designed to absorb and naturally drain water into a rainwater recycling tank. The recycled water is then used for irrigating plants and flushing toilets, achieving both greening and water conservation.
The building uses wood and steel materials, all of which can be recycled and reused, reducing waste and environmental damage.
In terms of indoor health and environmental indicators, the library uses ecological coatings and minimizes unnecessary decoration engineering, reducing pollution and the release of toxic substances, and avoiding impacts on human health.
When you visit Beitou, aside from soaking in hot springs, you can also come and enjoy the fusion of literary and green environments, and experience a forest bathing experience!
