During the Japanese colonial period, to facilitate maritime transportation between Magong and Xiyu, a dock was constructed along Daguye Beach. When excavating stones and soil, this magnificent columnar basalt, buried underground and slumbering for a millennium, was accidentally discovered. It is considered an easily accessible columnar basalt formation on the main island of Penghu.
