The Zhang Family Ancestral Hall was built during the Japanese colonial period (Meiji 37, 1904). After World War II, it underwent several major renovations. The present Zhang Family Ancestral Hall in Taichung faces east with its back to the west. It is a courtyard-style ancestral hall with two main halls, two verandas, and four protective wings. In front of the ancestral hall there is a spacious forecourt and a semicircular pond at the entrance. Its layout resembles traditional residences in central Taiwan, and its most distinctive feature is that the construction methods on the left and right sides of the central axis differ from each other. The above information is taken from the Taichung City Cultural Heritage Management Office.
