Cartoonify was launched in July 2018 as an experiment to leverage artificial intelligence for creative image transformation. It utilized Google's Quick, Draw! dataset and the Draw This! project by Dan Macnish to achieve this functionality. Although the project was deprecated in 2023 due to rising server costs, it generated over 100,000 cartoons and paved the way for Kapwing's other AI image generation features.
