The “Taichung Metropolitan Area Railway Elevated MRT Conversion Project” has been pursued, planned, and constructed over many years. With close coordination between the central and local governments, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) trains are now running on the elevated viaduct, and the elevated stations are operational simultaneously. The elevated railway in the Taichung metropolitan area stretches from 1.9 km north of Fengyuan Station to 1.4 km south of Daqing Station, covering a total length of 21.7 km. Five existing stations have been converted into elevated stations, and an additional five elevated commuter stations—Chilin, Toujiaju, Songzhu, Jingwu, and Wuqian—have been newly built. Among them, Daqing and Songzhu stations are shared with the Taichung MRT Green Line, providing seamless transfers and integrating the rail network to give the century-old railway a fresh new look.
