The land of Shierliao was originally intended by the father for a tranquil retirement. This brought about significant changes to the land: the majority of the area was transformed into the Shierliao Leisure Agriculture Zone, Tonghua Valley Camping Site, and a commercial street that houses his and his sister's, Hsu Chi-jung, experimental bases - the "Free Store" and "Woodcarving Dream King". The "Free Store," which opened in June or July 2016, has a simple storefront but carries their profound dreams. The store is filled with neatly organized goods, ranging from small toys to thermoses, and new or clean second-hand items from homes can be donated here. People who visit can engage in bartering, exchanging items such as eggs for a teddy bear, with the aim of recalling the spirit of mutual assistance and trust from the old days of rural communities. This is achieved through a modern approach. During the interview, a neighboring mother brought a bag of freshly picked citrus fruits, stating they were for exchange. It's believed that the neighbors have understood their ideals. Not only that, but the green, blackboard-like material on the refrigerator at the entrance, labeled "Community Fridge," encourages people to take and share ingredients. For hygiene reasons, cooked food and meat are not accepted; only various food ingredients and dry goods are received. The initiative has also introduced brand support, such as Ashe Restaurant, allowing everyone to experience the lovable simplicity of a Hakka farm. During this period, community building efforts such as these have yielded exciting results: more people know about Shierliao and the weekly common dining events on Wednesdays and Saturdays, where residents and tourists share meals, building a bridge for communication and enhancing community cohesion and positive interaction. The rate of item exchange has significantly increased. As media exposure continues, university students from all over come to this place to engage in activities like serving the elderly, weeding, and writing reports to promote the area in exchange for food. The in-depth cooperation with local children's ecological camps has also received a lot of positive feedback. The "Woodcarving Dream King," on the other hand, is a plan to recall and create in-depth travel experiences in collaboration with Shierliao. The walls of the store are filled with photos of humanities, landscapes, industries, and scenery. Customers can choose places they want to visit and activities they wish to experience, and the store will customize an in-depth experience journey for them. This could involve farming with small farmers, appreciating eagles flying over the lake, or making frames with fallen leaves, branches, and dried flowers to bring back eco-friendly memories and sustainable tourism concepts. Their dream is to expand this concept to all aspects of daily life, including food, clothing, shelter, education, and entertainment, creating a self-sufficient ideal world where one doesn't need money to pursue a beautiful life.
