Dàlún Head Mountain and Dàlún Tail Mountain are located on the main ridge of the Wǔzhǐ Mountain range extending westward, stretching from northeast to southwest. Dàlún Tail Mountain has an elevation of 451 meters, with giant rocks lined up and standing tall, forming a peak. Dàlún Head Mountain has an elevation of 475 meters, making it the highest mountain in the Neihu area. The mountain top platform offers a broad view, and the scenery is excellent when climbing high and looking far away. The two mountains stand side by side, imposing and magnificent, becoming an important landmark for the Shìlín Central Community. The Dàlún Head and Tail Mountain Hiking Trail, due to the mountain's terrain and water source protection, has been developed less, preserving its natural ecological plants. Starting from the Central Community trailhead, the path is a wide and flat gravel road, accompanied by tall trees providing shade, making the walk cool and comfortable. The mountain top has an observation deck, offering a view of the Outer Double Creek and Yangming Mountain area. As the trail progresses to Dàlún Head Mountain, there is a large lake, Dàlún Lake, located on the mountain slope, with clear and green water reflecting the mountain scenery. The path to Dàlún Head Mountain is lined with autumn grasses swaying in the wind, cool and pleasant. The northern side of the mountain has a natural trail connecting to the Wànxī Industry Road. The trail is hidden in the forest, with the Inner Double Creek Forest Natural Park's lush forest always accompanying hikers. The entire trail features a comfortable wooden boardwalk, elevated in the tree layer, avoiding damage to the surface rocks and plants, while also allowing visitors to observe nature. Interpretive signs appear at short intervals, guiding hikers to better understand the local geology and ecosystem. Along the way, hikers may see trees "sprouting" from the trail, which actually grew there originally, and the boardwalk was built around them. This way, the natural scenery of the forest is preserved, and hikers have a convenient and comfortable trail to use. The "native" forest dwellers have their living space preserved, remaining carefree, with insects chirping and birds singing continuously, and squirrels often jumping through the trees. Although the trail involves climbing, the rich ecosystem makes hikers slow down, stop to admire, or consult the interpretive signs, making the entire journey feel light and enjoyable. If hikers need a break, there are often wooden platforms alongside the trail where they can rest. Rarely, in the outskirts of the city, is there a natural, kilometer-long wooden path for hikers to tread, and experienced hikers often go barefoot to experience this comfortable forest journey. The trailhead of the Zìyóu Hiking Trail leads to Dàlún Tail Mountain, greeted by a wide and flat gravel road. The tall trees along the road, swayed by the wind, create a soothing sound with the rustling of leaves, and the sound of footsteps on the gravel road provides a nice accompaniment. Even though other sections of the trail are mostly stone steps, the lush forest always accompanies hikers. Entering this natural ecological corridor, the mature and rich forest ecosystem is preserved due to the trail traversing through the hidden and almost undeveloped western foot of Dàlún Head Mountain. Dàlún Tail Mountain, although not having a primeval forest, has a steep terrain, making development difficult, and located in a water source area, resulting in less human disturbance and better preservation of its natural ecosystem. On the windward side between Dàlún Head and Tail Mountains, trees are significantly shorter due to strong winds, forming a "wind-blown dwarf forest" composed of plants like Red Formosa Kisa (Premna odorata), large-leaf Hancea (Microcos paniculata), and Small-leaf Elaeocarpus (Elaeocarpus parvifolius). The northeast monsoon creates a cold-temperature effect, allowing plants typically found in mid-altitude environments of around 2000 meters to thrive in this 400-meter-high environment, creating a unique altitudinal plant phenomenon. The mountain top area features a warm-temperate broadleaf forest, while the warmer valley has tropical plants like Buton (Bucida buceras) and Drypetes (Drypetes spp.), and subtropical broadleaf forest ecosystems are also present, essentially concentrating tropical, subtropical, and warm-temperate ecosystems in one area, nurturing a unique and rich compressed ecosystem. Climbing high to enjoy the view, Dàlún Head Mountain, the highest peak in Neihu, offers excellent scenery. The mountain top platform provides a broad view, with observation decks on both sides. On the left, Dàlún Tail Mountain and Shítóu Mountain are visible, while on the right, Yuánzǐ Mountain, a smaller hill, can be seen. From here, Dàlún Tail Mountain appears particularly majestic, not like a small mountain with an elevation of just over 400 meters. Looking north, the Dàtún Mountain range, the barrier of northern Táipei, and the volcanic formation of Shāmào Mountain are clear. The platform on the opposite side of the valley, Píngděng Lǐ, was formed by lava flows during volcanic eruptions. Walking to the other end, Wǔzhǐ Mountain and the lake scenery of Neihu Dàhú Park are reflected, with the lakes and mountains beyond Jīlóng River stretching from Xīzhǐ to Píngxiè, Shí dìng, and Jīlóng, a breathtaking view. The area near the top of Dàlún Tail Mountain has multiple resting gazebos and observation decks. The mountain top platform is vast, with a simple observation deck offering a view of the Outer Double Creek and Yangming Mountain National Park. Descending a short staircase to the platform near a hut with a shed roof provides a different experience. A large observation deck near the mountain top and trail offers a 360-degree panoramic view, surveying the Wǔzhǐ Mountain range and group peaks and ridges in Xīzhǐ, with a sense of dominance and exhilaration.
