The Maolin Purple Butterfly Eco-Park is located in Maolin Township, Maolin Lane. It is a popular spot for butterfly-watching during the butterfly season. Following the park's walking trails will lead you to the Purple Butterfly Trail. "Purple Butterfly Valley" is not a specific location, but rather an ecological phenomenon where multiple species of butterflies gather to overwinter. The valley is mainly located in the low- to mid-altitude mountainous areas of Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Taitung counties, where the Paiwan and Rukai people reside. Every year from October to February, over a million purple butterflies migrate to the warm and wind-sheltered valleys at the foot of Daming Mountain, the sacred mountain of the Rukai and Paiwan people in southern Taiwan. Maolin's "Purple Butterfly Valley" is renowned alongside the "Monarch Butterfly Grove" in America, and they are both classified as world-class natural assets and listed as two of the world's largest "overwintering butterfly groves". It was also rated as a three-star must-visit attraction by the Michelin Taiwan Green Guide. It is recommended to spend about 3 hours here. Visitors can walk along the Purple Butterfly Eco-Park's butterfly-watching trail to the Zishali Trail, where they can observe different species of purple butterflies and scattered colorful butterflies.
