Located in the southwestern part of Lieyu Township, the L18 outpost was constructed by the 158th Regiment garrison in 1987 and completed the following year. Its design referenced novel forms commonly adopted by US military forces after the Vietnam War, though its inspiration actually stemmed from the "Phoenix" spacecraft in the TV series "Science Boy Gang." Positioned between Gushan Camp and Sachihou Camp, L18 played a critical role as a key fire network node on Lieyu Island during the cross-strait standoff era. Consequently, its overall firepower exceeded that of typical coastal defense positions. The main fortress featured 16 machine gun ports, while the M24A1 tank emplacements flanking the structure served as the primary artillery strongholds. inside the fortress, remnants of its early machine gun ports remain visible, accompanied by faded motivational slogans etched nearby. The nostalgic atmosphere creates a compelling visual effect, making this a must-visit photo spot for photography enthusiasts. Furthermore, the coastline adjacent to the fortress offers an ideal location for leisurely walks and seaside relaxation. At sunset, the breathtaking glow of dusk merges harmoniously with the view of Xiamen City across the water, forming a scene so beautiful it seems frozen in a painting—worth lingering to savor fully.
