Many people are unaware that within Puan Village of Koxu Township lies the title of the "Hometown of Eels," and it is the only community in Taiwan where the entire neighborhood is dedicated to raising eels. Starting from R.O.C. year 58 (1969) when the first eel pond was developed, until the peak of the eel industry in R.O.C. year 75 (1986), nearly 96% of the villagers were engaged in eel farming, which not only created Taiwan's economic miracle but also earned the accolade of the "Eel Kingdom." As its name implies, the First Eel Ripple is the first eel pond of the Eel Hometown. It has endured the hardships of eel industry history and embodies the indomitable spirit of the people of Haikou, who, despite harsh environments, toiled tirelessly with calloused hands and unyielding determination to overcome adversity without bowing to fate.
