桃園市八德區重慶街53巷2號
By the side of Luguang Fourth Village stands a building that resembles a school auditorium, its red bricks paired with green window frames, and the elegantly styled Chinese characters "Zhongzheng Hall" evoking a strong sense of historical flair. This structure once served as a popular movie theater, and after its renovation in 2011, it was transformed into the Taoyuan City Library – Danlang Branch, becoming a vibrant cultural hub promoting art and literature. In 1964, the Ministry of National Defense's Army Headquarters established a cultural and health center here, offering a venue for military officers, their dependents, and local residents to enjoy film screenings. Today, still maintaining the architectural characteristics of a 1950s military construction, the Danlang Library preserves the memory of the residents' lives. The original ticket booth has become a mailbox and book return slot, while the facade facing Chongqing Street showcases a balanced symmetric style, with textured cement walls forming mountain-like patterns and minimalistic lines creating a modern aesthetic. Stepping inside, the undulating floors, rows of audience seats, and projecting holes on the walls take visitors back to the era of film theaters. Located centrally on the first floor, the multimedia screening room continues the image of a former cinema; the second-floor renovation exhibition area features preserved roof tiles and film projectors from Zhongzheng Hall, with wall placards detailing the renovation history. Another highlight is the Finkelbein steel-frame roof, its crisscrossed steel structure adding a retro-industrial touch. Climbing to the attic for an overlook intensifies the visual intensity. The two-story height design makes the indoor space bright and spacious without any sense of crowding. Besides the reading area, even the window sills are padded, inviting people to immerse themselves in the boundless sea of books at any time.
