Located in Yunlin’s Huwei Township, a district that still shelters many Japanese-era buildings, Yung-tsui Pavilion is Huwei’s best-preserved example. Also called Yu-shui Pavilion, it served during the Japanese colonial period as a guesthouse for VIPs and is now a dreamy Instagram hotspot. Built to host government and military dignitaries, the structure belongs to such types as state guesthouses, VIP lodges, rest houses, or inns. Its Japanese timber architecture—featuring a formal reception room, living space, and attached study—embodies the classic shoin style, earning it the title of “Huwei’s most beautiful building.”
