In 1946, Zhang Xueliang came to Taiwan from Chongqing and began his thirteen years of solitary confinement in Wufeng, Qingquan. In 1964, the Japanese cypress house where Zhang Xueliang lived with his wife Zhao Yidi for over a decade was destroyed by the Typhoon Gloria. Today, the Zhang Xueliang Former Residence in Qingquan is a rebuilt version. The museum showcases historical materials, precious old photos provided by Zhang Xueliang's nieces Zhang Lvheng and Zhang Luyi, as well as Zhang Xueliang's personal works and interviews with elderly people in Qingquan. Walking through the museum, it's like being there, sharing the dream of Zhang Xueliang, the Northeast warlord, in the serene and peaceful Qingquan. Historical anecdotes can sometimes be a cultural resource. From Zhang Xueliang, we can see a microcosm of modern Chinese history, with thrilling events and touching love stories. To understand this significant historical figure, Wufeng Township in Hsinchu is the best choice. He was imprisoned here for 13 years, leaving numerous stories and memories. With the rebuilding of the Zhang Xueliang Former Residence, a wave of historical tourism and intellectual travel has quietly begun.
