The Guangzhang Saint King Temple located at Zhongyi Street in Fengshan, Kaohsiung, was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and has stood for over two centuries since its completion. It is counted as one of the four major ancient temples in Fengshan, alongside Shuangci Pavilion, Chenghuang Temple, and Longshan Temple. The main deity enshrined there is Chen Yuanguang, the meritorious figure from the Tang Gaozong era who quelled the southern barbarians for the Tang Dynasty. The temple also houses statues of General Ma Ren and General Li Boyao. The colorfully painted door gods in the main hall were a legacy of the national treasure-level mural master P'an Lishui. Despite numerous renovations over its two-century history, the temple has preserved intricate stone carvings with meticulous craftsmanship, maintaining an imposing and solemn atmosphere rich with traditional charm. Revered for abundant incense offerings and famed for its miraculous phenomena, the temple is a pivotal place of worship in the region and one of the largest Guangzhang Saint King temples in all of Taiwan. The expansive square outside the temple has also become a central location for hosting various martial performances, wedding celebrations, and other joyful events.
