Chiayi’s first canelé-only shop
A post-90s guy who loves baking moved back home to start a business, choosing the “angel’s bell” canelé as his theme. In 2020 he opened Chiayi’s first canelé-only shop. Tucked away on the quiet Guangcai Street in an old house, he still hired the well-known studio Little Blessing to craft an elegant French-retreat: soft blues against dark wood, dreamy white gauze curtains. Walk past and you’ll be startled that Chiayi has a store selling nothing but canelé; step inside and the warm, sweet scent wraps around you.
Besides the classic, 90 Sweet Lab stuffs its shells with matcha, coffee, apricot, cocoa, Earl Grey, hōjicha, Thai milk tea, and drops limited minis—bite-size, but twice the work. Holiday assortments appear seasonally. Because of the pandemic the pastry chef works solo; no dine-in. Reserve your flavors in advance.
