Central Street, Penghu First Street, Penghu Old Street, located at the northern end of the street, commonly known as “Top Street,” has a four‑eye well with a very long history. It dates back to the mid‑Ming Dynasty, having existed for several hundred years. In its earliest days it was a large well used by people in the Ma Gong Central Street area. The well has always produced abundant water and never dried up, even during Penghu’s numerous severe droughts; it continued to yield cool, sweet water for residents. According to legend, Penghu Central Street was once called “Great Well Street” because of this well. The four‑eye well, also known as the four‑hole or four‑cavity well, is 5.6 m deep and 1.8 m wide. To prevent children and adults from falling in, the opening was raised, and to maintain orderly water‑drawing, the well was divided into four directions, each covered with a well‑eye. Each opening has an inner diameter of exactly 36 cm, facing east, west, south, and north, allowing every household to queue conveniently. In the past it was the source of drinking water for the residents of Central Street; today it has been converted into a tourist attraction. 【Suggested Stay Time】 0.5 hours
