Blackfoot disease is an endemic vascular disease prevalent in the southwestern coastal areas of Taiwan. It is believed that the disease is caused by chronic arsenic poisoning from drinking well water with excessive arsenic content. The condition can also lead to cancers of the liver, kidneys, bladder, and other organs. The Blackfoot Disease Memorial Park was originally the Jinhe Clinic, the oldest clinic in Beimen Township. The clinic was operated by Dr. Wang Jin-he, a graduate of the Tokyo Medical Specialty School, who returned to his hometown to provide medical services. Dr. Wang is known as the "Father of Blackfoot Disease." The clinic provided free medical assistance and served as an important spiritual pillar for patients. The museum showcases Taiwanese medical artifacts, medical records of Blackfoot Disease patients, and other exhibits. Notably, it displays many preserved limbs of patients with Blackfoot Disease, which are placed in front of a Christian cross. These displays allow visitors to reflect on the selfless dedication and compassion of medical personnel and the church, as well as the suffering endured by the patients.
