The Zhuoluo Dunes is a large-scale coastal dune landform in Taoyuan. Due to its beautiful scenery, environmental education, and academic research value, the city government announced its designation as a geological park in 2020, making it the first geological park in Taiwan to protect coastal dunes. It stretches 8.1 kilometers along the coast from the Old Street Creek estuary in Dayuan District to the Daku Creek estuary in Guanyin District, with a maximum height of 21 meters, resembling the Sahara Desert in Taiwan.
The Guanyin Coastal Recreation Area Visitor Center was temporarily closed due to the nearby sea area being closed, and in recent years, the government has promoted coastal revitalization policies, gradually transforming the barren coast into a romantic and emerging leisure spot. The center was renovated and transformed into the Zhuoluo Dunes Guanyin Exhibition Center in March 2020, with a focus on the geology of Zhuoluo Dunes, marine ecological conservation, and environmental education.
The first floor introduces the Zhuoluo Dunes Geological Park, featuring seven main themes, including a visual model, historical events, knowledge walls, dune geomorphology, a digital sand world, AR geomorphic sandboxes, and marine conservation exhibits. Six interactive experience facilities are also available, including magnetism, sand diameter, weight, temperature, wind speed, and AR geomorphic sandboxes.
The center provides guided tours, allowing visitors to understand the formation and history of the dunes, common dune flora and fauna, and explore the microscopic world of dunes. Two commemorative stamps and a scenic wall are also available for visitors to collect and take photos. The second floor showcases the results of Taoyuan City's environmental education picture books, providing picture book reading and a scenic viewing platform where visitors can enjoy the sunset on the seaside rooftop.
