新北市貢寮區研海街45號
The Yenliao Anti-Japanese Monument stands in Yenliao Seaside Park. After the First Sino-Japanese War, the Qing Empire and the Empire of Japan signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki, ceding Taiwan to Japan. Taiwanese soldiers and civilians organized the Republic of Formosa to resist the Japanese forces. On May 29, 1895, Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa led the Imperial Guards Division to land at Aodi, marking the start of the 1895 Japanese invasion of Taiwan. Taipei surrendered in June, and Taiwan became a colony of the Japanese Empire, beginning a 50-year period of Japanese rule. The Japanese erected a landing monument at the site of their landing in Yenliao. After Taiwan's retrocession, the township office removed the original monument and replaced it with an anti-Japanese monument to commemorate the heroic spirit of those who resisted the Japanese.
