屏東縣琉球鄉和平路61號
The spiritual center of Xiaoliuqiu's residents! Biyun Temple, located at the heart of Liuyu Island, was built in 1736 and has a history of over 200 years. It enshrines Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, to whom the people of Xiaoliuqiu turn for every life occasion—choosing dates for weddings or funerals, celebrating a baby’s first month, seeking a spouse, inquiring about illness, praying for bountiful fishing returns, or any life-changing event from birth, aging, illness, and death to joy, anger, sorrow, and delight. Big or small matters in Xiaoliuqiu’s community necessarily prompt villagers to come for divination and guidance, becoming the residents’ spiritual refuge. In 1980, former President Chiang Ching-kuo visited the temple personally and donated 1000 New Taiwan Dollars as incense offerings, further enhancing the temple’s reputation across the island. Below the temple lies a wooden boardwalk where visitors can appreciate the bamboo forest ecosystem. Walking along the path, sunlight filters gently through the trees, creating a cool and refreshing atmosphere. At night, twinkling lights illuminate the bamboo grove accompanied by the soft murmur of flowing water and rustling leaves, while the occasional croak of frogs echoes in the breeze.
