Owner Zhang Conghe cares deeply about his guests’ dining environment; since opening, the shop has been renovated every two years, so although it is nearly forty years old, its façade and interior still look brand-new. Even if the storefront betrays no trace of Guanghua’s history, the flavor of the shaved ice is an unmistakably “old” taste that never lies. The proprietor hand-picks the fruit and slow-cooks the toppings and syrup himself; whether you order a simple shaved ice or a fruit juice, only the finest ingredients are used. Speaking of signature items, nothing beats the “nine-treasure” combo topped with red beans, soybeans, grass jelly, mung beans and five other toppings: “When customers can’t decide, or want a bit of everything, this bowl satisfies every wish.” In addition to the superb ices, the freshly blended juices and frappés are also outstanding; the taro slush, made from taro simmered until velvety, bursts with rich taro flavor in every sip and is another must-try favorite.
