The Hua-tsai Settlement is one of the better-preserved traditional villages in Penghu. Over 300 years ago, Chinese immigrants arrived in this area. Surrounded by surrounding hills, the terrain resembles petals surrounding a flower's center. The settlers cultivated land and built homes near this floral heart (at the top of Shansaiting), leading to the name "Hua-tsai" (flower house). After the Retrocession of Taiwan, it was renamed Zhongshe Village as it lay centrally among four villages in Wang An Township. Within the cluster of historic houses in Hua-tsai, the most famous one is the "Tseng Family Ancestral Home," distinguished by its red-brick walls and distinctive Tseng-style windows. Unlike most Penghu ancestral homes built with gugu stones, this one was constructed with basalt. Its front façade features elegant bookcase windows filled with scholarly charm. With years of neglect damaging the home, descendants of the Tseng family raised funds for private restoration. Today, it stands as a shared spiritual heritage and symbolic legacy for subsequent generations of the Tseng family.
