澎湖縣望安鄉花宅聚落(中社村)
The Hua Community (Hua Zhai) is one of the more intact traditional settlements in the Penghu region. More than 300 years ago, Han immigrants arrived here and observed the terrain. Surrounded by hills that form a ring like petals encircling the flower center, the settlers carved land in the bud-like center area (Shan Zai Wei Ding) and built houses, naming it "Hua Zhai." Located centrally among the four villages of Wang An Township on the main island, it later was renamed "Zhongshe." Due to population outflow, the antique houses gradually deteriorated. In 2005, the local residents formed the "Hua Zhai Settlement of Taiwan: Preservation Association of Ancient Houses" to raise awareness from the government. The Penghu County Government subsequently designated it the "Wang An Hua Community Settlement," further applying to the Ministry of Culture for its inscription as an "Important Settlement." Currently, a redevelopment plan is under discussion. The most eye-catching architectural features are the Zeng Family's ancient house. Its windows resemble the shape of Microsoft's registered trademark, and the red brick lattice is sculpted into the character "Zeng." These humorous symbols appear as boot-up passwords and are part of the family's restorations according to the original designs, which are admirable efforts to preserve ancestral heritage. A prominent filming location in the community is featured in the advertisement "Looking Back, the Footsteps of Youth Are Not Far; Looking Forward, Life's Flavor Becomes More Fragrant as One Gazes Toward the Truth of Life"—the Brolong Coffee Penghu Edition commercial. The music of a piano accompanies children's laughter as lighting and dancer's steps interweave among windmills, ancient houses, green trees, and yellow daisies. The youthful cheerful laughter and shy smiles contrast with the weathered stone walls carved with historical traces and the old homes; the blue sea, the blue sky, red flowers, and white waves represent the colors of Penghu. The Canon EOS 650D - Penghu Edition commercial also features the shadowed alleys and text windows of Hua Community, which have become a favorite subject for photographers.
