From the foothills of the Great Warm-Jianshan Range, Taiji Ridge, Wucheng Range, Wenbi Range, Huoyan Range, Longquan Creek, Nantianmu Range, and Lunzi Range, the青龙 Ridge’s five-way junction offers a sweeping view of the Tung-blossom forests blanketing the Greater Jianshan area in pure white. Between the first terrace on the trail to Greater Jianshan and the path that descends right of the terrace to the Qinglong Tudigong (Earth-God) shrine, the Tung trees are in magnificent bloom.
Huoyan Mountain—also called Qingyuan Mountain—rises 373 m on the western spur of the Tian-Shang range. Natural gas seeping from its strata can be ignited on the ground, earning it the nickname “Volcano.” The stone-paved path threads through dense woods thickly planted with Tung and acacia trees. From April to May, Tung petals drift like snow; then the golden shower of acacia takes over, turning every branch and the forest floor a dazzling yellow—an unforgettable sight.
