南投縣魚池鄉文化街127號2樓
The Ita Thao Visitor Center is located in front of the Ita Thao Pier, making it a must-visit spot for those taking a yacht. The building's exterior resembles a large yacht and was opened in 2011, with renovations taking place in 2023. The first floor houses the yacht ticket booth, specialty product store, emergency medical station, public restrooms, and nursing room, with a small parking lot for cars outside the building. The second floor serves as the management station office and visitor center. The visitor center offers a range of services, including travel consultations, brochures, mobile power bank rentals, and a Muslim prayer room. It's also an ideal spot to take in the scenic views of the lake. The name of the landscape art piece is "Nest Building Project II - Formosan Blue Magpie". The Formosan blue magpie, a native Taiwanese subspecies of bird, is found in mid-to-high-altitude mountainous regions. It's known for its yellow-green back feathers. These birds can also be spotted at Sun Moon Lake. Every spring, the Formosan blue magpie searches for gaps in rock walls and tree holes to build nests. Using materials such as moss, lichen, animal hair, tree bark, and branches, they weave bowl-shaped nests. Taiwanese artist Fan Cheng-tsung's "Nest Building Project" learns from animal architects in nature. For his creation at Sun Moon Lake, he focused on the Formosan blue magpie's nesting methods. He interprets the bird's nesting process and techniques using human wood-rope construction skills. At the Ita Thao Pier, he built a small nest where travelers landing can take a moment to rest. The elegant lake surface and vast mountain ranges echo each other. Sun Moon Lake is definitely worth a visit. Real-time parking information for the Ita Thao Visitor Center:
