South American Coffee is the first coffee shop in Taiwan that independently imports green coffee beans from the coffee-producing regions and roasts and sells them locally. After going through 50 years, South American Coffee not only pioneered the beginning of coffee roasting in Taiwan, but also recorded the history of the popularity of coffee in Taiwan. Therefore, to understand the history of coffee in Taiwan, it is impossible not to mention South American Coffee.
In the 1960s, people in Taiwan were still unfamiliar with the taste of coffee, let alone roasting coffee beans themselves. In the early days, roasting techniques were commercial secrets in coffee-producing countries. At that time, Mr. Wang Zhenfu, the founder of South American Coffee, searched everywhere to study the formula and tried using iron pots and tea roasters. After many experiments, he finally learned the techniques and tricks. In order to let the public at that time understand coffee and experience the beauty of coffee, Mr. Wang initially tried roasting coffee beans at the front of the store, hoping to attract crowds with the aroma. After several efforts and persistence, he eventually led the trend of drinking coffee in Taiwan. After going through the test of time, South American Coffee has no flashy appearance, no sweet and tempting pastries, but it does offer the essence and delicious taste of coffee.
South American Coffee was founded by Mr. Wang Zhenfu in 1956 at Chengdu Road in Taipei City. It started as a general store, then a Western pastry shop, and in 1962, it was officially established as South American Coffee Co., Ltd. as the first professional store specializing in the import, roasting, and sale of coffee beans.
During this period, the trademark of South American Coffee was freely granted to coffee shops throughout Taiwan that used the company's coffee. It was the beginning of coffee shops in Taiwan.
The company has always adhered to Mr. Wang's persistence. All the coffee is roasted from original beans (imported from the original country or early local production in Taiwan), and is blended according to the taste of the local people. Especially the premium South American Coffee is the store's treasure, which is blended and determined by Mr. Wang, and has remained unchanged for 5 to 60 years.
