Oasis Brunch
If you arrive at Oasis Brunch following your GPS without having done any homework, you may question your life choices the moment you look up—why does it say “Taiwan Times”? And what’s with the “Chiayi County Medical Supplies Cooperative” sign on the wall?
The owner, originally from Chiayi and a veteran of the food-and-beverage industry, saw the rise of leisure tourism and decided to open a relaxing brunch spot in increasingly popular Chiayi City. After much searching, he found this old building; only after signing the lease did he learn it had been sub-let many times. While renovating, he uncovered the original “Taiwan Times” signage hidden underneath and chose to keep it, giving the café its nostalgic vibe.
Oasis specializes in hearty, high-quality platter-style brunches. The “miso-glazed roast chicken leg” is a must-order: you get two whole legs, surrounded by a riot of colorful, nutritious sides. The portions are so generous they threaten to spill off the plate, making the price feel like a bargain.
The 100 % house-made pudding is another highlight; its silky, delicate texture comes from a pricier secret ingredient—proof of the owner’s sincerity.
