The Seven Beauties Coast features spectacular basalt sea erosion, with a continuous line of columnar basalt sea cliffs. In the Great Lion Scenic Area, the “Great Lion” looks like a lion crouching on a giant basalt in the sea. This Great Lion is the result of radial columnar basalt undergoing marine erosion. Next to the stone lion is another marvel: a block of volcanic breccia with clear folds, showing obvious curved structures due to compression. Its shape resembles a giant dragon winding and rolling on the sea, hence the name “Dragon Pond.” On this eroded platform, there are various sizes of tofu rock and more than a hundred pot holes of different sizes, making it the largest and most orderly pot hole group in Penghu. The site has an observation platform where you can look at the stone lion to the right and the dragon pond to the left, enjoying the fascinating and ever-changing geological scenery. Near the Great Lion Scenic Area, there are several stalls and convenience stores selling ice treats and local specialties. In the back alley, walking along the road, you can view the stone lion from different angles and distances.
