Chen Cheng-po is a distinguished Taiwanese painter and a predecessor of modern Taiwanese art. His paintings have been sold at auction for over NT$100 million. His famous "Danshui Sunset" was sold at a Hong Kong Christie's auction in 2007 for approximately NT$212 million, setting the highest record for Taiwanese painting at international auctions.
Many of Chen Cheng-po's works feature the landscapes and people of his hometown. The scenery and characteristics of Chiayi have been preserved and renowned worldwide through his art.
