Beyond the Great Buddha, historic sites, and natural ecology, Baguashan Great Buddha Scenic Area also shelters a vibrant slice of local culture: a colony of aesthetics named “Gua-Shan Village.” Here, artists, creators, and food-lovers who cherish life’s beauty and uphold craftsman spirit gather to run their own studios. These “villagers” befriend visitors with handicrafts and creativity, broaden everyday imagination, and design diverse workshops so people can taste the joy of making art while treating travelers to memorable flavors.
The ring-shaped Gua-Shan Village sits opposite the pilgrim road that leads to the Great Buddha, behind the Baguashan Visitor Center and linked to the Baguashan Ecological Park—an ideal hub inside the scenic area itself. Once a cluster of vendor stalls, the unused public ring-building felt wasteful until, in 2020, the Changhua Creative Arts & Aesthetic Education Association proposed a living-aesthetics colony. Selected by the county government, the “Gua-Shan Village” project launched, offering space for passionate, sharing artisans to develop local Changhua brands and a stage to interact with every visitor.
