Taipei Veterans General Hospital West Campus

2017-06-29
Taiwan University Hospital was established during the Japanese colonial period. It was formerly known as Taipei Hospital, the Taipei Hospital of the Governor-General of Taiwan, and the Medical School of the University of Tokyo. After the war, it was renamed the National Taiwan University College of Medicine Hospital. It has been the core of modern medical development in Taiwan. The buildings of the west campus are currently used for outpatient services and some wards. This building was designed by Mr. Jukichi Kondo, a Renaissance-style two-story red brick reinforced concrete structure. The floor plan adopts a symmetrical layout, with a central corridor connecting various outpatient clinics and wards. The lobby is solemn and luxurious, with spacious space and the use of many Western architectural techniques. It is a masterpiece of modern Western-style architecture, and at that time, it was the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia.
